History

About nine years ago, in the building next door to The Life Center was an abortion clinic.  For many years it was very difficult and challenging time for many women in the Elgin area that were in a pregnancy crisis.  Many were in need of support, encouragement, and a safe environment to continue their pregnancy.

During that time, there was an active group of concerned Christians who were committed to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to women who were considering abortion within the community.  They encouraged women to choose life for their unborn babies.

One hot summer afternoon while the group was out sharing the gospel message, they observed a young that appeared apprehensive about their plans to abort. They were approached about the option to choose life.  At that moment it became evident women that chose life had no facility nearby for emotional and material support to continue their pregnancy.

            God is so faithful! A few months later the group of Pro-Life Christians raised money for a down payment to purchase the building where we were shared the gospel of Jesus Christ on many hot summer afternoons.  The group never dreamed that soon they would be operating a "Life Center" facility. 

            Six months of prayers and preparations, in June of 1996 The Life Center opened its doors! We do encourage women to choose life.  We provide support during their pregnancy.  When you visit us we:

·         Share the hope of the Gospel, the forgiveness of God, and to teach that Jesus cares for them while showing that we do too.  We also distribute Bibles and Christian literature.

• Provide practical help with medical referrals, maternity clothes, and baby items.
• Share the abstinence message with single women and girls.
• Minister life to those who have had abortions; teaching about God's forgiveness and the healing power of Jesus.
• Disciple new believers in their spiritual growth.  We currently host a Tuesday evening Bible study on the Purpose Driven Life.
• Provide for material needs such as diapers, clothes, and maternity items to over 400 needy moms each month.

            It's our mission to make our ministry at The Life Center even more effective in the next 8 years -- to lead more hurting women to the cross of Jesus and to witness even more women in crisis pregnancy situations choose life. 

Like many non-for-profit ministries, we desire to do much more.  We are limited on resources and desire to do much more that still needs to be done.  We ask that you pray with us regarding these important issues:

Finances

We operate by donations and labor against limited funds. The summer months were, and often are, an especially difficult time of the year.  Our current financial limitation makes it impossible to hire staffing.  A critical need!

Staff

A part time Director of Development recently joined our staff.  Pray for her as she tries to do a "full time" workload in about 25 hours each week!

Grant Writers

We are looking for grant writer to help fund needed resources.

 Volunteers

Although we do have a great base of volunteers, there are always gaps that need to be filled with knowledgeable, hard-working people.

 

Bilingual (Spanish/English) Office Assistant to answer phones does data entry, and general office work.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) Client Services to better serve our clients through interviews, agency referrals, and to generally advise and minister to their individual needs.
